Anbernic RG DS - affordable dual-screen Android handheld for DS emulation

RetroGear and Anbernic now go hand in hand. We are very fans of this company's modern handhelds. They are of good quality, hardly break down and are relatively easy to repair, which is important to us.

With this new toy, the Anbernic RG DS, Anbernic is taking a new direction. This is an affordable Android handheld with two screens. You can guess: this handheld is specifically designed to emulate Nintendo DS games, and it does that surprisingly well.

  • Dual-screen design with two 4-inch IPS touchscreens
  • Android 14 operating system
  • Optimised for Nintendo DS emulation
  • Including stylus for touch operation
  • Rockchip RK3568 processor
  • Support for many retro systems

  • Affordable entry into dual-screen handhelds

Why the Anbernic RG DS is special

The RG DS is clearly built with one goal in mind: Nintendo DS emulation, and it shows. With the newest firmware (installed by default on all models we ship), the known bugs have been removed from DS emulation and everything now works flawlessly. Touch, screen layout and performance feel exactly how you want DS games to feel.

The handheld runs on Android 14 and is powerful enough for all classic systems, plus PS1, N64 and many PSP games. Some Nintendo 3DS games are also playable, but if that is your primary goal, we recommend looking a little further at, say, a AYN Thor, which is simply better suited for that.

The dual-screen design is of course ideal for DS games, but also surprisingly practical outside of that. The second screen is great to use for music, walkthroughs, guides or other apps while you play. Thanks to the clamshell design with hall sensor, it automatically goes into sleep mode when you close it, making it pleasant for everyday use.

The RG DS comes with a stylus, so you can immediately start playing games that use touch controls.
