Not on every phone, but it is quite flexible. The X5s supports devices between 105 and 213 mm wide, so most modern smartphones will fit just fine. For very thick cases or exceptionally large devices, it's smart to double-check.

Is this fine for long sessions?
That's fine, precisely because the grips feel a bit more serious than on many compact mobile controllers. At the same time, of course, it remains a controller around your phone or tablet, so comfort also depends on the weight of your device.

Can I customise the button layout?
Yes, and that is precisely one of the nicest things about this model. The ABXY buttons are physically interchangeable, making it easier to choose the layout you like.

Is this only for bluetooth use?
For the 5xS, the focus is precisely on wireless use, but the model also supports USB-C wired and 2.4GHz wireless. The dongle for 2.4GHz just doesn't come with it as standard.
